Plan "B" When Infatuated With an Artist

I was thinking I'd like to marry you.
But
you wouldn't have to return the favor.
You could marry something conceptual
like a pen or a canvas
or a smashed bottle of glass.

A blissful threesome
me and you and it.
All pacified.
All committed to that which is
not too much of a challenge
to our own personal space.

When it frustrates you
you turn to me.
When you frustrate me
I turn to it.

It's Foolproof.
Brilliant.

Except at night.

When it would be difficult
to climb into bed with you
feel you kiss me on the forehead
squeeze my hand and
roll over
expecting me to contentedly watch you
make love
to the creative process.
