I wanted to talk about what makes us write, about the muse and writing
on the backs of shovels with coal if it was the only way available,
but I thought better of it (almost). Instead, I thought to focus on
what makes us try to publish the stuff. As the editor and creator of
whimperbang, I can only
plead insanity, after which I will say that it is for the pleasure of
sharing good writing, letting it out of its box and into the world.
Altruistic? You bet.
that purpose, I have set both myself and whimperbang
to task. Every piece presented here has been read and reread, chosen
for the authors' abilities to turn a phrase, commute a sentence, or,
dare I say, entertain us.
are quite proud to be able to offer the work of these authors in Volume
1, Issue 1 of whimperbang. It
has been about ten years since this was a crumb of an idea on the edge
of the plate, four since our first false start, and one year since the
ball began rolling down the hill of this little magazine. It is my sincere
hope that you, the reader, may come away with something to carry through
your day, and that you might return for more of the same.
